Annual James A. Haley VA Hospital cook-out Update…

On Sunday October 9, 2016, the Lakeland Elks Lodge 1291 made their annual cook-out visit to the James A Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL.  This event is about Elks giving back to our veterans.

The Lodge provided a meal of either a hamburger or hot dog, with choice of toppings, potato salad, baked beans, chips, ice cream and a beverage.  The Lodge also provided music and karaoke for entertainment.  For the veterans that are able, they are encouraged to come to the picnic area so that we can assist and socialize with them.  For the patients that are not mobile, we deliver a complete meal to their room.

In addition, the Lodge also provides items that are dispensed to the veterans, such as socks, under garments, toiletries, reading glasses, etc.  These items are either donated by Elks and/or purchased by our Veterans Committee with funds that are raised at lodge events and from the Freedom Grant.

This year the Lakeland Lodge was able to provide over $2,000.00 worth of donated items, and the Lodge prepared a total of 600 meals.  The Lodge provided over 30 volunteers.  This event was a great success because of Lodge members hard work and generosity.  We want to thank all of our volunteers and all of our members who gave monetary contributions, donations, time, support, or attendance at any of our functions.

Sincerely,

Char Fisher and Kristen Francks; Veterans Services Chairpersons
